400 MW portfolio in Egypt
With six projects totalling 400 MW, Scatec Solar is the largest contributor to the 1.8 GW solar park in Benban, Upper Egypt. Upon completion, the solar installation will be the largest in Africa and significantly increase access to clean and low-cost electricity to drive development and economic prosperity.
Through a unique model of sustainable collaboration with authorities and other solar PV developers in BenBan, Scatec Solar will act as a lead developer of the solar park installation. The six projects involve a total investment of USD 450 million. Construction is scheduled to commence in early 2018 and the projects are expected to employ about 1,500 workers at peak period.
A solid track record in emerging markets
Scatec Solar has a solid track record of developing and building PV solar plants globally, installing successfully more than 600 MW over 15 years. The company is currently operating 12 power plants across 5 countries and have over the last couple of months launched projects worth nearly USD one billion on three continents – Asia, Africa and South America.
The new solar projects in Brazil, Malaysia and Egypt totaling 758 MW are expected to generate about 1,500 GWh of electricity per year, avoiding more than 700,000 tons of carbon emissions annually. Most of the construction work has begun, which will generate thousands of local jobs. When the new power plants are in operation, Scatec Solar will hold a diversified portfolio with a capacity of more than 1,1 GW.
