“The future may be renewable, but it’s a future that must be shaped by talented, motivated, and skilled people,” says Toril Haaland, EVP People & Organisation at Scatec.
“For us at Scatec, we aim to do our part to help shape the next generation of changemakers.”
As part of this ambition, Scatec runs an annual graduate programme in its largest market, South Africa, where the company seeks fresh grads for a yearlong experience in the world of renewable energy.
“We are currently in the midst of the 2021-2022 graduate programme, which consists of a talented group of young people who are eager to drive results and work together with us,” explains Haaland. “For us, it’s not only about imparting our knowledge on these young talents, but it’s also about what we can learn from them. Because in our company, learning never stops.”
Scatec’s graduate programme kicked off in January with a two-week orientation, after which each participant was assigned to a business unit based on background, interest and skill. The participants are evaluated on a quarterly basis and select candidates will be offered positions in the company at the close of the programme.
“Scatec is all about stretching your own development, while driving results and making change. This is what attracted me to the company and it’s what has made it the most rewarding place I’ve ever worked,” says Haaland. “Our ambition is to give these graduates a strong and positive start in their careers, in what we believe is one of the most critical industries for our green future.”
This week in Cape Town, Scatec’s graduates are gathering for a roundtable session with company executives, as a continuous feedback loop embeds itself in the growth and strengthening of our leadership development. As Haaland puts it, this session is another opportunity for dialogue, mutual learning and perhaps some fun, too.
Scatec plans to continue its graduate programme tradition into the next year as well. Recruitment for the 2022-23 session begins in June of this year.
