Community library

In Malaysia, we renovated the local library in Bukit Merah to ensure that children and adults continue to use the library, borrow books, and join activities.

The challenge

Before Covid, children from the nearby kindergarten frequently visited the library to borrow books and tell stories. There were also activities for adults, like health and cooking information during weekends. But after the pandemic, fewer people visited the library.

How we worked together

We renovated the library to ensure it continues to foster literacy and provides a public space to connect communities. The opening ceremony was held on 30th November 2022, with 65 people in attendance. Now children and youth can visit the library to enjoy the books, contributing to a thriving community. The library organises reading campaigns, and also has activities for adults around the theme of health and cooking information during weekends.
