Scatec joins Norwegian pavilion at solar industry hot spot Intersolar Europe

9 May 2022: This week, Scatec will be represented at the Intersolar Europe 2022. There will be a strong Norwegian presence at this year’s event. Norwegian Energy Partners, The Solar Energy Cluster Norway and Innovation Norway have joined forces to organise a Norwegian pavilion and networking sessions, where 18 Norwegian companies from across the solar industry will showcase their expertise.

Scatec is joining the debate on how Norway’s innovative solutions can ramp up the solar industry to drive a sustainable Europe forward. Enja Sæthren, Government Affairs and Support Mechanisms Lead, will be part of the German-Norwegian dialogue on Wednesday, 11 May 2022. Enja will discuss the EU’s role in the global green hydrogen shift, focusing on how delivery on the EU’s ambitious green hydrogen targets is contingent on the EU’s ability to facilitate imports from the future hotspots of green hydrogen production in emerging markets like the Middle East and Africa.

75% of the hydrogen needed in 2050 will be produced and sold on a global market. Emerging and growth markets are especially attractive for green hydrogen due to oversupply of cheap renewable energy resources, high levels of intermittency and presence of hard-to-abate sectors that must be decarbonised as the world gears up for net-zero, creating opportunities for both domestic decarbonisation and exports to Europe. Standardisation, support mechanisms and incentives will be crucial to catalyse the first investments and help shape the global market for green hydrogen,” says Enja Sæthren.

For the past 15 years Scatec has been at the forefront of solar development and investment in high growth markets, and today it has evolved into a leading provider of solar, wind and hydropower, with 3.5 GW of capacity installed across four continents.

One very interesting development of solar power over the last few years is the introduction of floating solar, where solar panels are mounted on the water surface rather than on the ground. There are several benefits of floating solar, the most obvious one is that it helps overcome land availability constraints in regions where land is a scarce resource. Another one is the cooling effect water has on the solar panels, and this will increase the overall system efficiency.

Terje Melaa, SVP Engineering & Technology, and Roman Karbowy, Business Development Manager Poland, will speak about floating solar during the event this week.

We see great opportunities for Scatec to take a lead in this growing market by combining our hydropower projects and water reservoirs with floating solar installations. We are currently running a research programme with Norwegian research institutes and industry partners to develop a platform for hybrid power plants combining hydro and floating solar power,” says Terje Melaa.

We can’t wait to network with you! Our team will be present during both days, so please stop by hall A4, booth #254. Our Head of Supply Chain, Jeanette Pretorius, will be present together with her team, in addition to our speakers and employees from Operation & Maintenance. Jeanette will also be part of a panel hosted by Rystad Energy during the exhibition.

The exhibition runs from 11 – 13 May and attracts more than 50,000 visitors. Intersolar Europe is the world’s leading exhibition for the solar industry. Under the motto “Connecting solar business,” manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, service providers and project planners and developers from around the world meet in Munich every year to discuss the latest developments and trends, explore innovations first-hand and meet potential new customers.
