In Ukraine, Scatec provides English lessons to children. Despite the war, almost 300 lessons have been conducted in the last two years.
The challenge
As part of stakeholder engagement, Scatec organises annual public hearings with city residents, government officials and educational institutions to create a roadmap for cooperation. Education is one of our priority areas, and English lessons provide an opportunity to not only teach children a foreign language, but also to express their own opinions, speak confidently and defend their position.
How we worked together
Despite the war, we continued to conduct English lessons in 2022. A total of 100 lessons were conducted, with a total of 747 visitors in 2022 (due to the war there were no classes from 24 February to 1 September). Lessons were held twice a week, for 8 hours. The courses were attended not only by locals, but also by members of military families and internally displaced persons.
“English should be learned because the knowledge will be useful when war is over; to support each other; to integrate displaced children into the community; to distract themselves from oppressive thoughts for children whose parents are fighting or killed in the war”, says Scatec CLO & English teacher, Olha Boichuk.
